According to the World Bank, the Blue economy is the "sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of ocean ecosystem." The European Commission defines it as "All economic activities related to oceans, seas and coasts.
The world’s blue areas, the seas, are fundamental enablers of life. They offer powerful solutions that can help us achieve a needed regenerative global economy.
"The ocean economy is worth between $3 and $6 trillion and offers opportunities to build resilience. Business related to the use of the oceans provides the livelihoods of approximately 3 billion people", says UNCTAD in the latest report Trade and Environment Review.
A'Pelago, founded in the Archipelago in Southwest Finland, is an impact-driven catalyst of Blue economy innovation, business solutions and investments. Through our four operation areas: we raise awareness of sea impact business practices, build collaborations and support scaling of startups, spinoffs and new business initiatives in the growing Blue economy.

A'Pelago is the co-coordinator of National Mission Hub of Finland of Mission Ocean
As a co-coordinator of the Finland’s National Mission Hub, established through BlueMissionBANOS 2030, a Horizon Europe project supporting the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters, we connect government, funders, research, business, and civil society to accelerate the scaling and deployment of Mission Ocean solutions in Finland.
