The A’Pelago Impact Report 2025 has been published

Accelerator Connect Recap

A’Pelago has released its Impact Report 2025, presenting the environmental, social, and economic impact created through its growing Blue Economy ecosystem across the Baltic Sea region. The report highlights a year marked by ecosystem growth, international collaboration, strengthened impact measurement, and increasing momentum for regenerative sea-region innovation.

Guided by its mission to reclaim the sea through science-driven business, A’Pelago continues to bring together startups, investors, researchers, corporates, and public actors to accelerate scalable solutions that support healthier and more resilient sea regions.

Throughout 2025, A’Pelago strengthened its position as a leading Blue Economy ecosystem platform in the Baltic Sea region. The ecosystem grew to more than 2,800 members across approximately 15 countries, bringing together over 750 organizations working across science, entrepreneurship, policy, investment, and industry.

The report also highlights the growing impact of A’Pelago’s Accelerator and Initiative operations. In 2025, A’Pelago supported 14 business cases developing science-based solutions addressing challenges related to marine health, biodiversity, circularity, climate resilience, and sustainable maritime industries.

Accelerating Blue Economy innovation

A’Pelago’s Accelerator continued to support startups developing scalable solutions for sea-region regeneration, while A’Pelago Initiative further strengthened collaboration between innovators, investors, researchers, and policymakers across sectors.

The report highlights the increasing diversity of solutions emerging within the ecosystem, ranging from nutrient recycling and regenerative food systems to maritime decarbonization, sustainable materials, renewable energy, and ocean technology.

Building measurable impact

During 2025, A’Pelago further developed its impact measurement methodology by combining quantitative impact metrics with qualitative impact analysis. The organization continued using the Ocean Impact Navigator framework developed by 1000 Ocean Startups to evaluate how supported ventures contribute to healthier and more resilient sea regions.

Recognizing that many Blue Economy innovations create enabling and systemic impacts that cannot yet be fully quantified, A’Pelago’s framework also incorporates venture-level impact theses and qualitative assessments to better capture long-term regenerative value creation.

Catalyzing collaboration and Blue Finance

Collaboration remains at the core of A’Pelago’s operations. Throughout the year, the organization hosted events, ecosystem activities, and capability-building programs that connected startups, researchers, investors, corporates, NGOs, and policymakers working toward shared sea-positive goals.

In parallel, A’Pelago continued strengthening the region’s Blue Finance ecosystem by facilitating new connections between ventures and investors interested in regenerative maritime and coastal solutions.

“The transition toward healthier and more resilient sea regions requires collaboration across science, business, policy, and finance. What we are seeing now is a growing ecosystem of actors ready to build that future together,” says Matilda Gustafsson, who led the creation of A’Pelago’s Impact Report 2025.

Looking ahead

As A’Pelago enters its next phase of growth, the organization will continue focusing on:

  • Scaling science-based Blue Economy ventures
  • Strengthening international ecosystem collaboration
  • Advancing impact measurement and transparency
  • Expanding Blue Finance opportunities
  • Supporting regenerative innovation for sea regions

The Impact Report 2025 reflects A’Pelago’s long-term commitment to enabling regenerative sea regions through entrepreneurship, collaboration, and systems-level innovation.
