March 27, 2025, Turku, Finland
– A’Pelago, a driver of the Blue Economy in the Baltic Sea region, has just released its first annual Impact Report for 2024, highlighting key milestones in advancing science-based solutions enabling marine regeneration.

Since its launch in 2022, A’Pelago has driven positive change in the Blue Economy by empowering startups, fostering collaboration, and creating a thriving ecosystem for Blue Economy development focused on marine health and biodiversity. In 2024, A’Pelago made significant strides in advancing the Blue Economy, with its first Accelerator Program supporting 10 innovative startups focused on scaling solutions to restore marine ecosystems. The impact report outlines the progress made and sets the stage for continued action toward a sea-positive future.

Impact

  • 10 Startups Supported: A’Pelago’s inaugural Accelerator Program successfully nurtured 10 ventures developing solutions for marine regeneration, creating new pathways for Blue Economy innovation.
  • Ecosystem Growth: Over 200 new professionals joined A’Pelago’s ecosystem in 2024, expanding the network of experts and investors driving change for the seas.
  • Local Impact: A’Pelago facilitated remote workspaces in the Finnish archipelago, allowing individuals to deepen their connection with nature. Additionally, they hosted two major events to drive collaboration and innovation in the Blue Economy.
  • Global Recognition: A’Pelago was accepted into the World Economic Forum’s 1000 Ocean Startups Coalition, reinforcing its position as a global leader in the Blue Economy impact space.

Environmental Impact

A’Pelago enhanced its impact management and reporting by integrating the Ocean Impact Navigator into its comprehensive impact management framework. This tool, developed by 1000 Ocean Startups in collaboration with global partners, measures the effectiveness of Blue Economy initiatives and supports companies in scaling solutions that address ocean health challenges. A’Pelago’s commitment to restorative Blue Economy practices that enable sea regeneration is evident in the growing number of stakeholders dedicated to marine conservation and sustainable business practices.

Diversity and Collaboration

A’Pelago continues to foster diversity within the Blue Economy, fostering cross-sector partnerships that transcend traditional industry boundaries. Collaboration remains at the heart of A’Pelago’s strategy, as the organization actively works to unite professionals, investors, and innovators who share a commitment to reclaim the sea.

Looking Ahead

As A’Pelago builds on its progress, the 2024 report outlines a clear path forward, with a focus on advancing action in three key areas:

  • Scaling the success of the Accelerator Program to support more impactful startups.
  • Expanding the Blue Economy ecosystem by integrating more global experts and stakeholders.
  • Enhancing A’Pelago’s impact measurement framework to ensure radical transparency and continuous improvement.

"We are thrilled to see the progress made in 2024," said Alina Sippolainen, Blue Economy & Ecosystem Advisor at A’Pelago.
