The City of Pargas is the “largest” archipelago town in the world that has become reality, when five municipalities in Finland became one in 1.1.2009. With more than 10 000 islands and islets outspread over 5500 square kilometres, of which 80 per cent is water, the beautiful, Archipelago Sea is a pearl for the inhabitants, summer guests and tourists.
What is Parainen Kaupunki’s mission and your unique approach to reclaim the sea regions?
We see the future as a time of strong growth, where the strengths of our town can flourish to their
full potential -people want to settle and stay here. The city of Pargas will be an attractive municipality with great business opportunities and we will create a great environment for people through new housing projects and good planning. In Pargas, growth means more than just numbers; it is also about personal development, learning, and insights. Pargas is visible and tangible – and Pargas is talked about.

The city of Pargas is, and will always be, an active participant when it comes to reclaiming the seas. The city has been involved with A’pelago from the beginning and recognises the enormous potential that the archipelago will offer now and in the future. Looking after our fragile sea, while at the same time recognising business opportunities within the framework is our top priority.
How does Paraisten Kaupunki, under the guidance of WHO collaborate with the A'Pelago, and what services does Paraisten Kaupunki provide to A’Pelago stakeholders that can support catalyzing blue economy innovation, business solutions and financing?
The city of Pargas can offer exciting venues and locations for A’pelago activities - our
archipelago is unique in many ways and we welcome all the stakeholders of A’pelago to visit our beautiful city. We also have a vast network of experts and organisations that can all contribute to the efforts of A’pelago - Business Turku and many financial institutions, just to mention a few. We also have very structured business services where we can help and guide new entrepreneurs in the field of blue economy, and entrepreneurship in general. We constantly monitor new funding opportunities and inform our entrepreneurs whenever they are available. We are happy to have many A’pelago businesses based in our city already, and we definitely want to attract even more!
