Deep Dive IV – AI for Ocean

Many teams trial AI without clear use cases or a plan to deploy. Others miss cases where AI could unlock solutions that were previously impractical. In this practical workshop, we focus on AI beyond the hype: when to use AI, when not to, and how early decisions affect product and platform development later. We will also share real-world marine stories of working without reliable connectivity and how AI made solutions feasible end to end.

The workshop provides concrete tools:

  • Guidance for deciding when to use AI vs. when not to, based on problem type, opportunity, expected impact, measurability, and operating constraints
  • Real-world examples where AI enabled outcomes that conventional software could not, and how to evaluate similar opportunities in your context
  • Guidance on outlining next steps from idea to test: define the business case, choose measurable outcomes, and identify the first validation steps

The workshop is led by Petteri Strömberg and Juuso Heinonen from Netlight. Petteri Strömberg is a Senior Consultant and a former founder, who supports companies of all sizes in their product journeys. He is currently innovating and supporting AI adoption at one of the world’s leading marine companies. Juuso Heinonen is a Senior Data Scientist & AI Engineer, who helps companies innovate and build AI-based solutions.

After this workshop, you’ll have practical tools to decide between AI and non‑AI approaches and to define clear next steps for testing value in your context.
