The world and maritime areas are in need of a radical redesign and reconstruction of business. As evidenced by the global business landscape, maritime areas can serve as invaluable teachers of regenerative cultures, offering multi-sectoral business potential (see BlueInvest, 2024). However, in Finland, maritime areas are still often perceived as regions which restoration depends on public funding and donations. Alongside these activities, there is a roaring need for businesses to take more initiative in restoring and enhancing the state of Sea Regions as part of their operations.

The progress presented on companies' websites and public forums towards positive climate, biodiversity, and social impact beneficial to the Archipelago Sea Regions is an outcome of extensive shaking of mindsets, learning, and development work. The development steps, rethinking and choices behind this disruptive progress often remain hidden. In order to accelerate creation business models that restore and enhance the state of resilient maritime areas, it is necessary to understand, how businesses are developed to be better generally and better for the Archipelago Sea Regions.
This August's A'Pelago Initiative Event Theme 'Reclaiming the Sea - Rethinking Business' is therefore more than a topic. It is a call to action and a call to showcase development processes behind business concepts that in their own unique way contribute to the vitality of the Archipelago Sea Region.
The A'Pelago Initiative Event theme is a co-creation from this year's 1st A'Pelago Initiative Event, Winter Camp
The call to action was co-generated at this year's 1st A'Pelago Initiative Event, Winter Camp in January by event attendees. In this brand work focused business camp, the participants concluded that improving the state of sea areas requires a bold shared statement or so-called 'war cry' of the Sea Region that encourages businesses and other actors to reach beyond the horizon when it comes to initiatives that aim to enhance the state of sea regions and society more widely. Hence, as part of the Winter Camp workshops, the attendees generated a call to action, which next will call A'Pelago guests in August to take initiative to enhance the sea regions as part of their business.
