Maria Laamanen

Maria Laamanen is the Senior Ministerial Adviser and Programme Manager of the Ahti Water and Marine Protection Programme at the Finnish Ministry of the Environment, and Chair of the Board of the FINMARI marine research infrastructure consortium.

Laamanen is a professional dedicated to the protection of marine environments, maritime policy, marine research, regional seas cooperation, and international ocean governance. She works actively across national, regional, EU, and global levels, with a strong focus on the science–policy interface where research meets decision-making.

With a background as a scientist and current role as a civil servant, her work is driven by bridging knowledge and policy to support sustainable ocean governance and marine protection.

Open to future opportunities and new collaborations, with a strong interest in contributing to the global changemaker community working toward healthier seas and sustainable ocean futures.
