The entire Finnish coastal region likely joined forces for the first time in history when My Sea was shown on Baltic Sea Day, August 29, 2024, and during the following weekend in all Finnish coastal cities along the Baltic Sea, as well as in five coastal municipalities and even in Rovaniemi.

My Sea is filmmaker Ari Heinilä’s poetic portrayal of the dialogue between the sea and humankind, where the sea takes center stage and humans step into supporting roles. The film invites viewers on a journey into the depths of the sea and the winding archipelago. Those who travel across the waters encounter the sea in its many forms. The narrative is carried by the sea godparents of Minun Mereni ry: Irina Björklund, Martti Suosalo and Taneli Mäkelä.

The film’s theme song, written by Timo Kiiskinen and Timo Hietala, is performed by Irina Björklund and the women of Värttinä. The maritime soundtrack was composed by a group of talented young musicians assembled by Pasi Lyytikäinen, composer and teacher at the Sibelius Academy: Erke Eriksen, Jenni Isoaho and Airi Salmela.
