About A’Pelago Initiative
The A'Pelago Initiative is a Blue Economy event based in Finland, designed for people who want meet, learn and collaborate with founders, experts and investors who are taking initiative to reclaim the sea in the Blue economy field.
Since our 1st event in 2023, more than 840 founders, researchers, experts and investors have brought insights, initiated collaboration and exchanged ideas to reclaim the seas.
Why is it?
The purpose
The purpose of The A'Pelago Initiative is to bring together Blue economy focused stakeholders across the Blue economy taxonomy, as well as individuals who have not yet decided to take action but have the right mindset. As a joint seaside gathering the Initiative events serve as pivotal moments for
- Dialogue to diversify and understand Blue economy,
- Collaboration and competence building to innovate
- To take initiative in order to accelerate scaling and financing of regenerating blue solutions.

A’Pelago Initiative 2025
February 27 – Pre-event Blue Connect Cruise on Viking Line
The Blue Connect Cruise brought together entrepreneurs, companies, investors, researchers, public sector representatives, and activists to explore how Finland can advance a sustainable Blue Economy with sea restoration at its core.
The unique setting at sea enabled insightful discussions, practical workshops, and new collaborations, emphasizing the need for proactive business action and innovative solutions for healthy seas and economic growth. The event also highlighted key strategies and actionable solutions for scaling sustainable practices across industries.
August 20–21 – Initiative Days at Turku Shipyard, Ruissalo
A’Pelago Initiative 2025 gathered leaders, investors, startups, and other innovators from across the Baltic Sea region at Turku Shipyard on August 20–21. Under the theme “The Ocean Starts Here,” the event explored the current state of the Blue Economy and its future opportunities.
A’Pelago Initiative 2025 also offered hands-on learning and collaboration opportunities, where startups, investors, and experts exchanged insights on sustainable investment, innovative ocean solutions, and scaling science-based businesses. The event concluded with a strong emphasis on turning ideas into action, inspiring participants to implement concrete steps that advance Finland’s and the Baltic Sea region’s Blue Economy.
