Blue Economy Academy
The A’Pelago Blue Economy Academy program inspires and introduces University and University of Applied Sciences students in the Turku region to career and entrepreneurial opportunities in the Blue Economy.
A’Pelago Blue Economy Academy is a free course program aimed at students, introducing the blue economy that promotes the good condition of seas, event production in the field, and career opportunities in the industry. The academy provides a great toolkit for understanding blue economy career opportunities, as well as planning, producing, and marketing industry events, taught directly by professionals in the field. The course is intended for 18–28-year-old students from universities and higher education institutions in the Turku region.
The course is held in Finnish/Swedish/English, but the Initiative event is international and in 2025 we had 300 participants from 12 different countries.
Results and Impact 2025
- 20 students gained hands-on experience in Blue Economy roles
- Understanding of sustainable Blue Economy business and finance was strengthened
- Opportunities to network with industry experts and companies were provided
- Interest in potential career paths within the sector increased

" The Blue Economy Academy was an exciting and valuable experience for me, through which I learned a lot about working in the industry and about event production for the A’Pelago Initiative 2025. At A’Pelago, I had the chance to flex my creative muscles in setting up the event, take initiative in a fast-moving environment, and to lead a great group of volunteer workers who helped with the event.
It was amazing to get to know the incredibly talented A’Pelago team, who I got to work alongside through every step of the way, from communicating about the incoming event, to the preparation of the event, and working during the event days. Working at A’Pelago was truly a highlight of my year and an incredible ending to an already eventful summer."
